Stuck in Schoolyear and not able to log back into your Windows Homescreen?
This article offers four methods to help you to solve this. Method 1, 2 and 3 described below will trigger Schoolyear to automatically reset to normal mode. If method 1-3 do not work, you can manually reset Schoolyear by following the steps described in method 4 or 5.
Please note: Try to avoid hard rebooting the pc by pressing the power button!
Step-by-step 5 methodes
1. Use the force Exit button
- Click on the Force exit button in the Authentication step
- Select Yes in the pop-up to allow Schoolyear to reset
- The computer will now restart and should be back on the Windows Homescreen.
2. Sign Out
- Press Ctrl + Alt + Del
- Click Sign Out.
- Log in with your user account.
3. Normal Restart
Method 1 didn't work?
- Restart your PC.
- Press Ctrl + Alt + Del
- Click Restart.
Once restarted, try to log in with your user account.
4. Manually Recover Schoolyear
Method 1 and 2 didn't work? Try the following steps.
- Press Ctrl + Alt + Del.
- Hold down the shift key and click Restart.
3. Click the option Troubleshoot and then Advanced options.
4. Go to Advanced options and click Start-up Settings.
5. Under 'Start-up Settings' click Restart.
6. Various boot options are displayed. Select Enable Safe Mode option by pressing function key F4.
7. Now, the computer will start up in a safe-mode. Once restarted, log in with your user account and perform the following steps:
- Open Windows Explorer.
- Navigate to C:/Program Files (x86)/Schoolyear/Schoolyear Exams:
- Rename the folder 'shell' to 'shell.old':
- Restart your computer to go back to normal mode.
- Navigate to C:/Program Files (x86)/Schoolyear/Schoolyear Exams and rename the folder back to 'shell'.
- Finally remove the current version of Schoolyear from your computer by using these instructions.
5. Technical recovery
In some rare cases none of the other methods might work. In that case, follow these steps. We highly advise you to ask support from your institute's IT support desk to perform below steps.
Important:To complete these steps you need your password. Make sure you know the password of your computer.
- Press Ctrl + Alt + Del.
- Hold down the shift key and click Restart.
- Click the option Troubleshoot and then Advanced options.
4. Open Command prompt, select your account and enter your password.
5. Open the system drive. The system drive is usually the C drive. Start by typing C: and hit enter. If the next line you see is C:\> you can continue to step 6. Otherwise follow these steps:
- Type diskpart and hit Enter. Wait until you see DISKPART>.
- Type list vol and hit Enter. You now see a table. You have to find correct letter of your system drive. You find this letter in the Ltr column of the table you see. You are looking for the row which has NTFS, Partition, Healthy and has a Size that corresponds to the size of your harddrive.
- Note the letter in the Ltr column.
- Type exit and hit Enter.
- Type the letter you noted, add a:(colon) and hit Enter.
6. Reset Schoolyear
Option A: To open the right folder to reset Schoolyear, follow these steps:
- Type cd "Program Files (x86)\Schoolyear\Schoolyear" and hit Enter.
- You should now see C:\Program Files (x86)\Schoolyear\Schoolyear> followed by a blinking line.
- Type ren shell shell.old.
Option B: Navigate step by step to the correct folder
- Type cd "Pro and press Tab. Some text will appear. Keep clicking on Tab until "Program Files (x86)" appears. Then, press Enter.
- Type cd "Scho and press Tab. Some text will appear. Keep clicking on Tab until "Schoolyear" appears. Then, press Enter.
- Type cd "Scho and press Tab. Some text will appear. Keep clicking on Tab until "Schoolyear" appears. Then, press Enter.
- You should now see C:\Program Files (x86)\Schoolyear\Schoolyear> followed by a blinking line.
- Type ren shell shell.old.
7. Close the Command Prompt and log back into Windows.
8. Uninstall Schoolyear. Follow this guide to uninstall Schoolyear.
