The questions and answers below will help you, as a Troubleshooter, get started with handling various scenarios during a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) assessment with Schoolyear.
Before the assessment begins, check:
- whether the scenarios below have been discussed and it has been determined how your institution will handle them.
What should I do if a red screen appears for the student?
Report the incident to your internal contact person (assessment centre or other designated contact person) according to the agreed procedure. This can be done during or after the assessment. Is the student allowed to continue their assessment? The invigilator can then enter the invigilator code on the student's screen to unblock it.
What should I do if a student has antivirus software?
The easiest solution is to give the student a backup computer during the assessment so that they can continue the assessment. The student can then resolve the antivirus software issues at a later time.
What should I do if a student does not have administrator rights to install the Schoolyear programme?
Without administrator rights, a student cannot install Schoolyear and therefore cannot use their computer for the assessment. Give this student a backup computer.
What does it mean if the Wi-Fi icon in the bottom right is orange or red?
An orange or red Wi-Fi icon means that there is an insufficient or no Wi-Fi signal. Note how many people are affected and contact the central IT and network department to resolve this issue.
What should I do if there is no or a poor internet connection during the assessment?
Unfortunately, Schoolyear does not work without an internet connection. Contact the central IT and network department to resolve this issue.
What should I do if a student's computer malfunctions during the assessment?
Ask the student to restart the laptop and repeat all the steps from start to finish. Restarting can be done by closing Schoolyear using CTRL + ALT + Del (Windows) or by restarting the laptop completely (macOS). If this does not help, involve a Troubleshooter or offer a backup computer.
What should I do if several students experience a malfunction during the assessment?
When several students experience a malfunction at the same time, there may be a malfunction in the assessment application software, Schoolyear software, or there may be an issue with the internet. It may also be coincidental, with the problem occurring in the computers themselves. Try to investigate this, or give the student a backup computer.
