The questions and answers below will help you, as an invigilator, understand how to deal with various scenarios during an assessment with Schoolyear.
What should I do if a blocking screen appears on the student's computer screen?
Report the incident to your internal point of contact (assessment centre or other designated contact person) according to the agreed procedure. This can be during or after the assessment. Is the student allowed to continue the assessment? The invigilator can then enter the invigilator code on the student's screen to unblock it.
What should I do if the student is unable to start the assessment?
Follow your agreed procedure: involve a Troubleshooter or provide the student with a backup computer.
What should I do if a student experiences a technical issue during the assessment?
Try restarting the computer and the assessment according to the instructions below:
Ask the student to restart the laptop and repeat all the steps from start to finish. Schoolyear can be restarted by closing it using CTRL + ALT + Del (Windows), or by completely restarting the laptop (macOS). If this does not help, involve a Troubleshooter or offer a backup computer.
What should I do if several students experience a technical issue during the assessment?
There may be an issue with the assessment application software, the Schoolyear software, or there may be an internet outage. Involve the Troubleshooter or contact functional management and/or the IT department.
What should I do if a student displays suspicious behaviour?
Follow the procedure communicated to you in advance by the institution. The invigilator will often contact an internal point of contact (assessment centre or other designated contact person).
How do you invigilate an assessment using Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) laptops?
The role of the invigilator during a digital assessment or review session with BYOD is comparable to that during a paper-based assessment. The invigilator ensures that the student can complete their assessment in peace and that the assessment they are invigilating is conducted fairly.
What is new for the invigilator is checking whether the student is using the Schoolyear application and dealing with technical laptop issues. Depending on the agreed division of responsibilities, the invigilator resolves these issues themselves or requests assistance, for example from a Troubleshooter.
What if a student has not brought a (suitable) laptop to the assessment?
A student cannot complete an assessment without a suitable laptop. Provide this student with a backup computer.
