In most exams using Schoolyear, you only need access to websites or PDF documents. For some exams, you’re also allowed to use an application such as Word or Excel. These applications will be prepared for you in advance — you do not need to install or configure anything yourself. Using applications with Schoolyear is simple.
Below are some instructions to help you. The instructions below only apply if the use of applications is allowed. If this is not the case, you will not use the additional exam environment described here.
Step 1: Launching Schoolyear
Starting the secure Schoolyear environment is similar to doing a device check or taking another exam in Schoolyear that only uses websites. You can read more about starting Schoolyear on this page.
Step 2: Log in with your Microsoft account
Once you’ve passed the Schoolyear checks, a window will appear asking you to log in with your Microsoft account. Log in using your personal Microsoft credentials.
Step 3: Launching your exam environment
After logging in, a loading screen will appear. Your exam environment is now being prepared. As soon as the environment is ready, the loading screen will disappear.
Step 4: Starting the Windows desktop and Schoolyear Browser
Once your exam environment has launched, you will be taken to a Windows desktop. The Schoolyear Browser will automatically open, and the exam application website will be launched. You’ll be logged in automatically and can start your exam from there.
You can do everything you would normally be able to do on a Windows computer. However, only the content (websites, applications, and files) that has been configured for your exam will be accessible. All content will open within this exam environment. If you experience any issues, you can use the Reconnect button in the Schoolyear toolbar at the bottom of the screen to reconnect to your exam environment.
