When should I use the Schoolyear Exam Password?
In some specific scenarios, an exam requires an Exam Password as an additional security layer. This password is shared at the start of the exam inside the exam room to ensure that students cannot launch the exam from outside the room. After all, they do not have access to the Exam Password.
It may be the case that your LMS or assessment application does not provide this functionality, in which case you can use the Schoolyear functionality. In other cases, the Schoolyear integration might take over this functionality from your LMS or assessment application, meaning teachers need a replacement option. This is, for example, the case when using the Canvas or Brightspace integration.
Where do I enable the Schoolyear Exam Password?
You can configure the Exam Password under Advanced Options in the settings widget.

When do students need to enter the Exam Password?
If an Exam Password has been set in the settings widget, students will be required to enter it as the final step of the Schoolyear checks. A password field will appear on the student’s screen.
Once students have entered the correct password, the Schoolyear checks will be successfully completed, and they will gain access to the exam.
A student receives the error “Too many failed password attempts” – how do I resolve this?
By default, students have 10 attempts to enter the Exam Password. If the wrong password has been entered ten times, an error message will appear:
- "Too many failed password attempts. Contact your supervisor"
You can resolve this error by resetting the number of failed attempts from the Schoolyear Dashboard. To do this:
- Open the Schoolyear Dashboard for the relevant exam.
- Search for the student in the Dashboard and open the student’s logbook.
- Click on the student’s name or the three dots in the top-right corner and select Reset failed attempts. The student will then receive 10 new attempts to enter the Exam Password correctly.
Can I change the Exam Password during an exam?
Yes. Even if the exam has already started, you can change the Exam Password via the Schoolyear settings widget. All students who restart Schoolyear after the change will need to enter the new password in order to access the exam.
