You can install the Schoolyear kiosk app on managed Chromebooks. The article What are the minimum computer requirements? explains that the Schoolyear kiosk app only works on the Stable Channel up to and including the most recent LTS version.
This means that Schoolyear supports the most recent LTS version and all stable versions above it. Google periodically releases a new LTS version. To allow institutions to update their Chromebooks to the new LTS version, Schoolyear will not immediately block the previous LTS version. However, since Schoolyear no longer actively supports this version, it is recommended to transition to the newest LTS version as soon as possible to avoid potential issues.
Supported by Schoolyear: | Current LTS and newer stable versions |
Not supported but not blocked by Schoolyear | Previous LTS version |
Blocked by Schoolyear | Older versions than Previous LTS version |
Example:
The image below shows that version 102 is the LTS until February 2023. This means that, up to and including February 2023, version 102 is the most recent LTS version supported by Schoolyear. Starting from March 2023, version 108 becomes the newest LTS version. This will then automatically become the most recent version supported by Schoolyear.
Version 102 will not be blocked starting from March 2023. However, starting from September 2023, when a new LTS version becomes active, version 102 will be blocked by Schoolyear because, at that point, version 108 will be the previous LTS version.
