Every 15th of the month Schoolyear releases a new software version in the Schoolyear beta environment. On the 1st of the following month the new version goes into production. At the end of each month, no later than two days before the production release date, Schoolyear sends an email with the final production download link to all administration teams.
Why monthly releases?
- Security model: In order to quickly mitigate new fraud strategies, it is necessary to release with high frequency.
- Development: To keep the lead time of new features short.
What does this mean for the institution?
Unmanaged computers (Bring Your Own Device)
In contrast to traditional safe exam browsers, Schoolyear has fully automated the updating of the application. When starting the exam, the student is automatically offered the latest version for download.
Managed computers
On managed computers the institution needs to take care of the Schoolyear updates because the student often has no permission to install applications on the spot. Therefore, the educational institution needs to install the software on these computers in advance. The roll-out on managed computers is a one-time thing. Once installed on a managed device, the updating process runs automatically.
