This article describes how you, as a student, can start a test with Schoolyear from Cirrus Assessment.
Before you begin, make sure:
- that you have performed a Device check to prevent possible issues.
- that all documents are saved. When starting the test, all open programmes will be automatically closed.
- that you have the rights to download applications on your computer.
- that you have your login details ready.
Step-by-step guide
- Open a browser supported by Schoolyear (see minimum computer requirements) and log in to Cirrus Assessment. How you log in depends on how your institution has set this up.
- Choose your test and click on ‘Start test’. You will now arrive at the onboarding page of Schoolyear.
- Click on the "Launch Schoolyear" button. It may be that this is done automatically for you.
Have you not installed Schoolyear yet? Then click on "Download now".

- The Schoolyear application will now open. Click on "Launch your Workspace".
If you have an older version of Schoolyear, it will update now. Read more about how updating works here: - The Safe Exam Workspace will now launch and you will arrive at the check page. The checks will be automatically carried out per component.

- As soon as all checks have been successfully completed, you can start the test.
- Finished your test? First check whether you have submitted the questions in the test application. Then you can close the secure environment via the ‘Close’ button at the bottom right.
