Start an exam from Canvas Quizzes

This article describes how to start an exam with Schoolyear from Canvas Quizzes.

Step-by-step guide

Make sure before you start:

  • that you have performed a device check to identify possible errors.
  • that all documents are saved. When starting the exam, all open programs will be automatically closed.
  • that you have the rights to download and install applications on your computer.
  • that you have your login details ready.
  1. Open a browser which is supported by Schoolyear (see minimal computer requirements) and log in to Schoolyear. How you log in depends on how your institution has set this up.
     
  2. Navigate to Canvas Quizzes and open the Quiz in which you would like to participate. 
     
  3. When you have opened the correct quiz, launch Schoolyear:
    • Instruction for Canvas Classic Quizzes: Click on the Launch Schoolyear button. 


       
    • Instruction for Canvas New Quizzes: Click on the link to launch Schoolyear. 



      Note: do not use the exam code. This will not work.  
       
  4. Click on the Launch Schoolyear button. It may be that this is done automatically for you.

    Have you not installed Schoolyear yet? Then click on Download now.

  5. Now click on Open to open the Schoolyear application. It may take a few seconds before the Schoolyear application opens.

    • TIP: Select the checkbox to skip this step in the future.
       
  6. The Schoolyear application will now open. Click on Launch your Workspace.

    If you have an older version of Schoolyear, it will update now. Read more about how updating works here:
  7. The Safe Exam Workspace will now launch and you will arrive at the check page. The checks will be automatically carried out per component.

    Do you receive an error message on one of the components that prevents you from continuing?

  8. When all the boxes turn green you will automatically proceed to the exam. You will be forwarded to the Quiz in Canvas and you can proceed to the exam.

  9. Finished with your exam? Check whether you have submitted the questions. Then you can close the secure environment via the red Exit button.
